about

At the Numero label’s launch, we already had a massive hard-on for power pop, glam, and regional bar rock. It was enough to result in the double-disc 004 Yellow Pills: Prefill compilation, intended as the first entry in a series that, we regret to report, got stalled out in committee. Seven years after its release, Yellow Pills became the first Numero effort ever put to sleep for good. Emails began trickling in about the catalog number gone missing: Would Yellow Pills ever see vinyl? Would Prefill ever lead to Refill—or Threefill? Was the Toms track “Sun” seriously recorded in the 1980s? Hoping to satiate the masses, the Numero brain-trust has conceived Buttons as our expanding pop umbrella...And we’re pleased to announce Starter Kit as the series’ first new batch. Hear the Bats, flapping out of early 80s Connecticut, to slake your thirsts for Jon Brion and for Beatle-esque melody. And get the Toms’ “I Wanna Be A Teen Again,” as close to an infectious mid-life crisis as we care to approach. Our revamped entry-level power pop compilation features 20 songs from the original 004, plus two bonus cuts, new liner notes, and a ton of sleeve scans, photos, and ephemera, all housed in a spot-varnished, brick-thick gatefold sleeve.

about

Buttons

Here at Numero, our arousal over skinny ties, broadwinged and melodic hooks, harmonizing young men, and monosyllabic bandnames is no new thing. What’s been getting us going all over again is Buttons, our spiffed-up and rebooted series dedicated to a legion of crushed Raspberries and opposite-of-Big Stars, the small-time power pop, punky glam, and regular-guy rock 45s and LP deep cuts. ... more
